KATHMANDU: Nepal registered the arrival of over one million foreign tourists via flights in the past 11 months of 2024.
According to Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), 1,055,533 foreign tourists arrived in the country between January and November 2024. The data indicates that meeting the target of 1,315,000 tourists this year has been challenging.
The NTB expects around 70,000 more foreign tourists to arrive in Nepal in the remaining month, bringing the total to approximately 1,115,000.
In November alone, 114,000 tourists visited Nepal, a 5.4% increase compared to the same month in 2023.
NTB Director Mani Raj Lamichhane stated that the analysis of the data suggests that tourist arrivals this year are likely to increase by around 10% compared to the previous year. In 2023, 1,014,871 tourists visited Nepal.
Earlier, the NTB anticipated the highest number of tourist arrivals since 2019, the year before COVID-19 impacted the tourism industry. In 2019, arrivals were tallied at 1,197,191.
However, Nepal's tourism recovery is ahead of the Asia Pacific sector.
According to data from the past six months by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation, Nepal's tourism industry has recovered 96% globally. Despite this, achieving the projected target for 2024 appears challenging due to various factors, Lamichhane added.
