KATHMANDU: Idea Studio Nepal and Ishizaka Inc, Japan, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in April 2024 for collaboration on 'zero waste design' in Nepal.

The MoU was signed by Idea Studio Nepal Executive Chairperson and Co-founder Tshering Lama, and Ishizaka Inc President Noriko Ishizaka. This MoU was exchanged between Idea Studio Nepal Executive Chairperson Lama and Ishizaka Inc Executive Officer and General Manager Yumiko Endo during their visit to Nepal.

The collaboration aims to promote knowledge and skills in zero waste design for waste management in Nepal and to establish a mini recycling plant similar to Ishizaka Inc, Japan. This plant will be Ishizaka Inc's first expansion and partnership outside of Japan.

Currently, studies and research are being conducted on waste management systems, waste management research, and human resource development in Nepal. In addition, various businesses related to waste management and their prospects are being studied.

This zero waste design model is expected to promote the public-private partnership model in government, private, and university sectors.

Starting with the exchange of experts programme (EEP) between the two countries to ensure sustainability, both sides will collaborate to address the waste management issues of both Japan and Nepal.

In May next year, six highly skilled engineers studying Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering at Tribhuvan University and other universities will join Ishizaka Inc. These six engineers will work at the recycling plant of Ishizaka Inc, Japan, gaining knowledge and skills, and are expected to work at the Ishizaka Model's mini recycling plant upon their return to Nepal.
