Minister Bhandari discusses bilateral trade issues with Indian counterpart

KATHMANDU: Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Damodar Bhandari, and India's Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, held a meeting on matters of bilateral interest in New Delhi, India, today.

Minister Bhandari is currently visiting India.

During the meeting at the Parliament Building in New Delhi, Minister Bhandari urged the Indian minister to facilitate the 'Bureau of Indian Standards' imposed by the Indian government on the export of Nepali goods, including cement, plywood, and shoes.

Positive discussions were also held regarding the amendment to the Treaty of Transit, according to Tarka Raj Bhatta, Under-Secretary at the Bilateral Trade and Transit Section of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies.

Additionally, an understanding was reached to organise a Commerce Secretary-level meeting in Nepal soon to facilitate trade and transit.

Highlighting the immense potential for investment in Nepal, Minister Bhandari requested Minister Goyal to take initiatives to encourage Indian investors to invest in Nepal, as the country has created an investment-friendly environment.
