KATHMANDU: Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) signed a cooperation agreement to support sustainable development and enhance private sector capacity building.
NCC President Kamlesh Kumar Agrawal and UNDP Deputy Resident Representative for Nepal Julien Chevillard signed the agreement on Monday at a programme organised at Chamber Bhawan, Jamal, Kathmandu.
According to a press statement issued by NCC, the agreement aims to facilitate collaboration on private sector capacity building, climate change adaptation, disaster management, and achieving the development goals set by UNDP.
The agreement also includes cooperation for community capacity building in response to natural disasters and commits to climate change mitigation, adaptation, and risk reduction.
The agreement between NCC and UNDP will take immediate effect. NCC President Agrawal emphasised the importance of private sector collaboration with the UN agency on capacity building, disaster management preparedness, and response.
UNDP Deputy Resident Representative Chevillard expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration, highlighting its significance in protecting Nepal from natural disasters and enhancing economic activity by developing the private sector's working capacity. He noted that Nepal is at high risk from climate change, making this partnership crucial.
Chevillard further stated that he would continue collaborating with NCC to protect Nepal's mountains and combat climate change.
