KATHMANDU: Department of Biotechnology at Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel, has announced the second edition of Watson Code Fest, Nepal’s only biohackathon.
Scheduled for December 20 and 21, the event will provide a platform for innovators from diverse fields to tackle challenges at the intersection of biology and technology.
Building on the success of the inaugural Watson Code Fest in 2022, this year’s event aims to position Nepal as a hub for bio-innovation, fostering collaboration and problem-solving among students, professionals, and tech enthusiasts.
Watson Code Fest is a unique competition that combines biotechnology, bioinformatics, and programming to address real-world problems. Teams of participants will brainstorm, collaborate, and innovate over two intensive days.
This year’s edition promises a broader reach, inviting participants from across Nepal to contribute to the growing biotech ecosystem, according to the organisers.
The event is open to individuals from all backgrounds, including those in biology, coding, or any other field. Teams of two or solo participants can register, and those without coding or biotech experience are also encouraged to join.
Three mentorship sessions will be conducted between the registration deadline and the event to guide participants through coding basics, biotech fundamentals, and problem-solving strategies.
As Nepal’s only biohackathon, the event will offer a rare opportunity to engage in biotech innovation. Participants will gain hands-on experience, receive mentorship from experts, and collaborate with peers and industry professionals.
The participating teams will be recognised for their innovative solutions, providing a platform to shine in the biotech community.
Interested participants can sign up individually or as a team of two. The registration deadline is December 16, 2024.
The organisers have ensured that even those with minimal experience in coding or biotechnology can benefit from the event’s resources.
