KATHMANDU: Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) has advised newly appointed ambassadors to prioritise economic diplomacy. At a programme organised at Chamber Bhawan, Jamal in Kathmandu, Nepali ambassadors to various countries were urged to attract investment in Nepal and facilitate exports.
NCC President Kamlesh Kumar Agrawal highlighted the importance of economic diplomacy for Nepal’s sustainable economic development and prosperity. He said, "Nepal has immense potential for foreign investment due to its natural environment. The country has recently received a sovereign country rating from an international agency, ranking second after India in South Asia in terms of investment. This will significantly aid in attracting foreign investment."
The NCC President urged the ambassadors to convey to the global community that the investment environment in Nepal is favourable. He informed that the private sector organisation is continually taking initiatives with relevant bodies to ensure returns on investment in Nepal. He also stressed the need to hold trade exhibitions that reflect Nepal and identify sectors worthy of investment.
He called for initiatives for B2B meetings with the concerned countries and bilateral agreements for investment and trade facilitation. Agrawal further stressed the necessity of concrete initiatives for investment in sectors such as hydropower, tourism, and mining in Nepal.
Likewise, NCC Immediate Past President Rajendra Malla welcomed the ambassadors and emphasised the need to promote Nepal's tourism sector. Malla also highlighted the importance of promoting investment in Nepal's IT and hydroelectricity sectors in international forums.
