KATHMANDU: Nepal Applied Mathematics and Informatics Institute (NAAMII) announced on Wednesday that it will host the fifth edition of the Annual Nepal AI School (ANAIS), an 11-day academic programme, from December 27 to January 6.
The event will focus on the foundations and applications of artificial intelligence (AI).
ANAIS is a unique platform in South Asia, bringing together scientists, faculty, and participants for intensive AI lectures, labs, and project work from around the world.
The course will cover topics from fundamental principles to a wide range of applications and domains, including the latest ideas and methods, according to NAAMII.
The event will be hosted at Premier International School, Khumaltar, and will accommodate 200 Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD students in computer science, as well as professionals working in AI from Nepal and beyond. Over the past four editions, more than 550 students from over 40 countries have attended the AI School.
Under the theme 'Bigger things can happen from small places,' the AI School aims to expose Nepali and international students and AI professionals to global developments.
A total of 25 international scientists and professors with significant experience and contributions to the AI sector will conduct physical classes on three major areas: Geometric Deep Learning, Foundational Models and Applications, and Modern Practices.
According to Bishesh Khanal, Director of NAAMII, the event will provide a platform for participants to share knowledge, ideas, and innovations in the field, presenting an excellent opportunity for attendees to network and collaborate. “We are at a pivotal moment in Nepal's journey toward embracing artificial intelligence, as the government drafts its AI policy and releases a concept paper outlining the scope of AI implementation in the country,” he said. “In this dynamic context, we are hopeful to stir necessary discussions and create the required expertise in Nepal through ANAIS.”
Alok Khatri, Head of Education Outreach at NAAMII, emphasised that the Annual Nepal AI School offers more than just education—it is an immersive experience. “Over 11 intensive days in each edition, attendees have the chance to learn from world-class experts, participate in practical workshops, and expand their professional networks,” he said.
NAAMII has collaborated with F1Soft, eSewa, fonepay, UK International Development, The Asia Foundation, and Data for Development in Nepal to conduct the event this year. Additionally, Young Innovations, SecurityPal, Google, and Fusemachines have also been primary supporters of this event.
