KATHMANDU: An earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale was felt in Kathmandu this morning, prompting many people to rush onto the streets.
The tremor, with its epicentre at Dinggye County in Tibet, China, occurred at 6:50 am, according to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre.
The tremor also caused widespread panic, particularly among residents of eastern hilly districts: Solukhumbu, Okhaldhunga, and Khotang, as well as the Tarai region.
A local resident from Salleri, the headquarters of Solukhumbu District, reported that despite the earthquake’s prolonged duration, no damage was observed in Salleri Bazaar. The mountainous district borders Tibet, China.
