KATHMANDU: Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) has established its Infrastructure and Land Reform Committee, led by executive committee member Roshan Bhayadyo. The committee comprises experts from various sectors including infrastructure, land and housing development, and construction materials.

NCC Senior Vice President Deepak Kumar Malhotra has been appointed as the senior advisor to the committee. Other advisors include Tanka Bahadur Shrestha, Director of Om Hospital and Research Centre and Chairman of Om Health Campus, legal expert Gokul Burlakoti, and organisation expert Uttam Prasad Jha.

During its inaugural meeting, the committee welcomed the recently revised Urban Development Policy 2081 issued by the Government of Nepal. The meeting underscored the importance of the timely formation of committees and expeditious preparation of regulations, emphasising that the involvement of the NCC and relevant professional associations would foster an environment conducive to infrastructure and land reform nationwide.

Despite the private sector's significant contribution to the country's GDP, the meeting highlighted that various challenges have hindered progress in enhancing the prestige of businesspersons in this field. The newly formed committee called for a positive attitude from both the government and society towards businesspersons.

At the committee meeting, the topics of discussion included mobilisation of domestic raw materials, facilitation of imports, intergovernmental coordination, and increased private sector involvement in development work.

The committee also outlined major programmes for the fiscal year 2024/25. The committee aims to present recommendations to the government and organise information-based interaction programmes. These initiatives will include an in-depth study of the Urban Development Policy 2081.
