Minister Khadka calls for private sector's investment in energy

KATHMANDU: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Dipak Khadka, has called on the private sector to invest in the energy sector, assuring them of a guaranteed market for the produced power.

Minister Khadka inaugurated a 'Document Management System' on Wednesday implemented by the Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC) to enhance its technological capabilities. During the event, he encouraged investment in the energy sector, emphasising the secure market for the generated power. He highlighted the government's target of producing 28,500 megawatts (MW) of electricity by 2023, noting that such technology would aid in achieving this goal.

The Minister stated that the government would gradually address issues in power production. He acknowledged the significant contribution of the private sector to the development of the energy sector, which he described as the cornerstone of the country's development.

Similarly, Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Suresh Acharya, highlighted the crucial role of the ERC in fulfilling the government's energy development goals. He stressed the importance of systematically implementing the online system while addressing cybersecurity issues.

Independent Power Producers' Association, Nepal (IPPAN) President Ganesh Karki described the 'Energy Development Roadmap-2081' as a historic milestone in the country's hydropower development. 

Likewise, ERC Chairperson Ram Prasad Dhital stated that the online system was launched to make public services more responsible, accountable, and technology-friendly. He affirmed the Commission's commitment to fully integrating technology into all its services.
