NEW DELHI: American tech giant Microsoft on Tuesday announced it will invest $3 billion in India on cloud computing and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and training over the next two years.
The announcement was made by Microsoft’s Chief Executive Officer, Satya Nadella, during an event in Bengaluru as part of his visit to India. This significant investment is poised to be the 'single-largest expansion' undertaken by Microsoft in the country.
In addition to infrastructure development, Microsoft will also focus on upskilling, pledging to train 10 million individuals in AI skills across India by 2030.
Microsoft plans to expand its cloud and AI infrastructure through data centre campuses within the country. The company currently operates three data centre regions in India, with a fourth slated to go live in 2026. This investment is intended to cultivate a scalable AI computing ecosystem to meet the increasing demands of India's burgeoning AI start-ups and research community.
