KATHMANDU: Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) and International Labour Organization (ILO) held a meeting to discuss improving the effectiveness of the Social Security Fund (SSF).

The discussion was held at Chamber Bhawan in Jamal, Kathmandu.

NCC President Kamlesh Kumar Agrawal, other office-bearers, and Numan Özcan, Country Director of the ILO Office for Nepal, participated in the discussions focusing on labour rights.

The discussions aimed at linking workers' minimum wage with productivity. NCC President Agrawal stated that the Chamber plans to collaborate with the ILO, an organisation active in the field of labour migration globally, on matters such as decent employment, fair wages for workers, and sustainability of the SSF. He remarked, “Around 80% of employment in Nepal is generated by the private sector, and the NCC is committed to ensuring their rights.” He also said that Nepal’s current labour law system poses challenges in adapting to changing work styles and skill development. The meeting also discussed promoting the adoption of flexible work styles by workers.

Country Director Özcan stressed the importance of effective coordination between employers and workers. He pointed out that small and medium enterprises are the backbone of the country's economy.
