KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs, Arzu Rana Deuba, has instructed heads of missions to advance national interests through effective diplomacy. She emphasised the importance of promoting economic diplomacy and protecting Nepali migrant workers, while ensuring efficient service delivery and engaging with Nepali diaspora for the country's development.

During a virtual meeting on Thursday with heads of Nepali missions abroad, Minister Deuba highlighted that economic diplomacy is a key component of Nepal's foreign policy. She urged mission heads to explore opportunities that support Nepal's development aspirations and economic growth, including attracting financial investment.

Minister Deuba also advised mission heads to leverage the potential of the countries they serve to benefit Nepal. She noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) is working through a dedicated division to achieve the country's development and prosperity goals, and all missions should engage in economic diplomacy to attract foreign direct investment.

Given the current economic challenges, Minister Deuba stressed the necessity for missions to attract investment and promote Nepal's potential in the global market. She also encouraged regular participation in international fairs, festivals, and exhibitions to showcase Nepali products and tourism.

Minister Deuba called on mission heads to advocate for climate justice, considering the challenges Nepal faces due to climate change. "Everyone should contribute to the success of the Sagarmatha Dialogue, which will be held in Nepal soon," she said.

She further urged mission heads to expand contacts and relations with governments, agencies, and private sectors in their respective countries, aligning their policies with Nepal's interests. "The effectiveness of our diplomacy depends on the capacity of the Nepali mission, so work diligently," she added.

The Foreign Minister also directed heads of missions to provide necessary services to the Nepali community abroad, address their needs, and be readily available to resolve their concerns and grievances.

Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai also spoke at the meeting, urging mission heads to protect the rights and interests of the Nepali community in foreign employment.
