KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel has asserted that Nepal's economy is improving as a result of ongoing reform efforts.
Speaking at a press conference and interaction programme organised by the Ministry of Finance in Kathmandu on Sunday, Minister Paudel highlighted that economic indicators have gradually improved. "We have not altered any economic indicators to present a different picture. The indicators are presented objectively, and the facts show that our economy is improving," he stated.
Minister Paudel, who also serves as the Deputy Prime Minister, claimed that the economic indicators have been upward since the current government's formation. "Previously, the economic indicators were negative. It has taken considerable time and effort to turn them positive. We have now steered the declining economy in a positive direction," he remarked.
The private sector's umbrella organisations have welcomed the amendment of the law through an ordinance, which Minister Paudel noted has played a role in advancing the private sector.
"The government is working to improve capital expenditure qualitatively," he shared. "Payments to contractors have not been halted. To date, payments have been made based on their legal claims," he added.
Minister Paudel also emphasised Nepal's vigilance in avoiding inclusion on the 'Nepal Financial Action Task Force' risk list concerning money laundering investigations. "We have a systematic plan to prevent money laundering, and efforts are being carried out with this agenda at the forefront. We are implementing it seriously, and Nepal is committed to protecting its reputation," he concluded.
