KATHMANDU: Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) President Chandra Prasad Dhakal has urged the government to align regulations and procedures with the spirit of recently issued ordinance.
Dhakal stated that while the FNCCI welcomed the ordinance, the focus should now be on implementing the issues it addresses. "The FNCCI has been lobbying the government for policy reforms for a long time. We are encouraged by the policy reforms the government has made at our request. However, this is not enough. More legal reforms are needed for investment," he said.
Speaking at the 10th annual general meeting (AGM) of Plast Nepal Foundation in Kathmandu on Sunday, Dhakal noted that while the government has made some legal reforms, more are needed to attract investment.
He stressed the importance of reusing plastic materials, highlighting that the plastic industry has provided employment opportunities to thousands of people through its production, distribution, sale, and recycling processes. "The reuse of plastic materials should be encouraged. There are areas where the use of plastic materials needs to be reduced, and attention must be paid to quality. If we can reuse these materials, we can save foreign exchange, Dhakal opined.
Speaking at the event, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Damodar Bhandari, expressed the government's commitment to creating an investment-friendly environment. He also pledged to introduce regulations and procedures in accordance with the spirit of recently issued ordinance.
