BHADRAPUR: Mechi Customs Office has reported 55.7% increase in tea exports over the past six months of current fiscal year 2024/25, with the export value totalling nearly Rs 3 billion.
Information Officer Ganapati Kandel revealed that a total of 11,232 metric tonnes of tea had been exported via Mechi Customs Office. In the same period last year, the export value stood at Rs 1.90 billion.
Aditya Parajuli, President of the Tea Producers' Association, remarked that this rise in tea exports is a positive trend, largely due to a decrease in tea production in India. He added, "If the government ensures further facilitation in tea exports in view of the growing demand in the Indian market, we will be able to significantly increase the foreign trade of tea."
Furthermore, the office reported 16% increase in the export of black cardamom, with the spice worth Rs 4.55 billion sold to the foreign market, compared to Rs 3.90 billion in the same period last year.
Other exports showing an increase include plywood, which saw a 27.90% rise, and cement clinker, which was also exported in higher quantities this time.
However, the exports of iron, chhurpi, ginger, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, and other items witnessed a decline.
