Chinese Embassy, MoCIT launch smart classroom in Gandaki

KATHMANDU: The Chinese embassy in Nepal, in collaboration with the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (MoCIT), inaugurated a state-of-the-art Smart Classroom at Shree Buddhodaya Secondary School in Khwolasothar Rural Municipality, Lamjung District, on Sunday.

This initiative, part of a broader friendship project, aims to enhance educational outcomes and empower the youth of Nepal. Huawei, a key partner, has provided advanced learning solutions, including the Huawei Idea Hub, laptops, desktops, Wi-Fi, and necessary infrastructures. These tools support both onsite and online education, creating a dynamic learning environment and bridging the digital divide for students in remote areas.

During the inauguration ceremony, Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, emphasised the significance of the initiative in addressing educational challenges in rural Nepal. He remarked, "This initiative marks a significant step towards bridging the digital divide and enhancing educational opportunities in rural Nepal. I commend the collaboration between the Chinese Embassy, Huawei Nepal, and MoCIT for bringing advanced technology to Shree Buddhodaya Secondary School, which will empower students with the skills necessary to succeed in the digital age. We are committed to ensuring that technology plays a key role in shaping Nepal’s future, and this smart classroom is an important milestone in that journey."

Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song, expressed his support in a video message, stating, "We are proud to support the Smart Classroom initiative in collaboration with MoCIT and Huawei Technologies Nepal. This initiative will equip students with essential digital skills and foster creativity. As we celebrate 70 years of Nepal-China friendship, our ongoing partnership underscores our commitment to empowering the next generation through education and innovation."

Li Xiaowei, Chief Technical Officer at Huawei Nepal, shared his enthusiasm, stating, "At Huawei, we firmly believe in the power of technology to improve lives. This collaboration with the Chinese Embassy and MoCIT is a significant step in ensuring that students in rural Nepal can access modern educational tools and resources. We are excited about this smart classroom initiative and look forward to further contributing to Nepal’s educational and technological progress."
