LUMBINI: A team of federal lawmakers, led by President of the Finance Committee of the House of Representatives, Santosh Chalise, visited Lumbini on Sunday.
The lawmakers expressed concern over the slow pace of its development.
The team visited the Maya Devi Temple and was welcomed by Sanuraja Shakya, Member Secretary of the Lumbini Development Trust.
During the visit, Finance Committee member Surya Thapa highlighted their concern for Lumbini’s development, noting its significance as a holy pilgrimage site for Buddhists and peace workers worldwide. Thapa reported that 88% of the Lumbini master plan had been executed and pledged to address the budget constraints hindering the completion of the remaining works.
Member Secretary Shakya briefed the lawmakers on the remaining projects of the master plan and recent activities within the Lumbini region. He also drew attention to the decreasing budget allocations for Lumbini in recent years and stressed its archaeological, religious, and cultural significance.
The team offered prayers at the Maya Devi Temple, the holy Puskarini Pond, the Ashoka Pillar, and various monastery areas.
