KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has emphasised the necessity of coordinated efforts among anti-money laundering bodies to minimise financial crime.

In a message marking the first National Day for the Prevention of Money Laundering in 2025, PM Oli highlighted the importance of collaboration among informant organisations, regulatory agencies, law enforcement bodies, and judicial entities involved in the anti-money laundering system.

"The mechanism for the prevention of money laundering should operate effectively to maintain financial integrity and transparency by preventing the entry of assets acquired through criminal activities," the prime minister's message stated.

He expressed hope that the Day would further encourage the effectiveness of money laundering prevention and maintain financial hygiene, as the criminal use of wealth poses a challenge to the economy and transparency in governance.

He urged professionals and businesspeople with good intentions to work freely without distraction.

Prime Minister Oli's message was read out at the event.

The Prevention of Money Laundering National Day is being observed for the first time under the slogan 'Transparency in Financial Activities, Commitment to the Prevention of Money Laundering', organised by the Department of Money Laundering Investigation (DMLI).

The Government of Nepal has decided to observe the 14th of Magh in the Nepali calendar every year as the Prevention of Money Laundering National Day, commemorating the promulgation of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2064 BS.
