Fulfilling aspirations for development, prosperity is true tribute to martyrs: President

KATHMANDU: President Ramchandra Paudel has emphasised that advancing towards development and prosperity is the true tribute to the martyrs. 

In a message on Martyrs Day today, President Paudel stated that honouring the martyrs means striving for sustainable peace, good governance, development, and prosperity through the federal democratic republican system achieved by their sacrifices.

The President expressed his belief that Martyrs Day would inspire everyone to fulfil their roles in realising the martyrs' aspirations while respecting their sacrifices. "On the occasion of Martyrs Day, 2081 BS, I extend my heartfelt tribute to all known and unknown martyrs, including the great martyrs Shukraraj Shastri, Dharma Bhakta Mathema, Dashrath Chand Thakur, and Ganga Lal Shrestha, who gave their lives for civic freedom, democracy, and national protection," he said.

President Paudel noted that Martyrs Day is a special remembrance of those who sacrificed their lives for the country. The day is observed annually on Magh 16 to honour the heroes who died in the democratic revolution and people's movement against the Rana oligarchy, the Panchayat system, and monarchy, making Nepali people sovereign citizens. "Sacrificing one's life for the welfare of the people and the nation is martyrdom. May this day inspire and encourage all political parties, the general public, and all concerned to dedicate their hearts, words, and deeds to realise the aspirations of the martyrs who attained martyrdom for the independence of the nation and the Nepali people," the President added.

Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav also conveyed his best wishes on Martyrs Day, stating that the valour of martyrs inspires all to build a prosperous nation. He highlighted that the courage of the martyrs motivates everyone to create a socially and economically strong, developed country with a self-reliant economy.

The Vice President paid tribute to the martyrs who laid down their lives for the country's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, inclusiveness, ending discrimination, and establishing a federal democratic republic. On Martyrs Day, Vice President Yadav called on everyone to work together for the country's progress, development, and prosperity by strengthening unity and embracing the ideals and values of the martyrs.
