At Young Lawyers Summit 2025, PM Oli calls for reforms and integrity 

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli inaugurated the first Young Lawyers Summit, organised by the Nepal Bar Association and the Young Lawyers Interest Committee in Kathmandu today, in commemoration of Martyrs' Day.

Addressing the inauguration of the summit, PM Oli emphasised the need for reforms across all social sectors, including politics, and declared that the country cannot be governed through 'stunts'.

On this occasion, the prime minister called for individuals to discharge their duties with integrity and loyalty towards the people, to elevate the country from chaos and poverty.

Highlighting the crucial role of political leadership and public involvement in establishing democracy, he urged everyone to commit to maintaining peace, order, good governance, and prosperity.

He stressed the importance of lawmakers framing legislation with the understanding that they represent sovereign citizens, and added that the government should not consider itself an 'absolute authority'.

"The parliament should formulate judicious legislation, and the relevant agencies should function accordingly. Besides exercising the principle of checks and balances, upholding laws is of paramount importance in a democracy," the Prime Minister stated.

Reiterating the incumbent government's commitment to building a well-governed, corruption-free, and prosperous country with happy citizens, he called for active cooperation from lawyers to achieve this vision.

Pledging to implement the conclusions and recommendations drawn by the conference, Oli reassured the government's support for lawyers and youths. He also vowed to focus on the formulation of laws and ensuring the welfare and advancement of this sector.

He opined that the situation of young lawyers receiving scant wages should be addressed.

The summit's inauguration featured addresses by various international representatives and the launch of the 'Young Lawyers Survey Report'.
