KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stated that martyrs serve as a source of inspiration for driving transformation in the country.

Addressing the main celebration of National Martyrs' Day, 2081 BS, organised by the government in Singha Durbar, Kathmandu today, Prime Minister Oli highlighted the significant contributions of martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the abolition of Rana rule and establishment of democracy at various times.

"Federal democratic republic was achieved due to the sacrifices and inspiration of our martyrs," the Prime Minister said, adding, "In this system, sovereign citizens are the source of ultimate power." He stressed the government's efforts to further strengthen this system and urged the people's representatives to work with the same spirit for total democracy.

He asserted that the current government is progressing towards the goal of a prosperous Nepal and happy Nepali. "We have fought long and hard to establish democracy," the Prime Minister said. "However, democracy does not mean anarchy; it is an advanced, civilised system of governance. While there are democratic processes for revising or changing leadership, any actions that threaten the unity of the country or hinder its development will not be tolerated."

"The government is committed to leading the nation in sovereignty, development, and good governance, and we are determined to follow the path set by our martyrs," he added.

Deputy prime ministers, ministers, deputy speaker, chief advisor to prime minister, government chief secretary, chief of army staff, government secretaries, and distinguished personalities were present on the occasion.

Prior to this, the Prime Minister visited Lainchaur-based Martyrs' Memorial and Shahidgate in Sundhara to pay homage to the martyrs.
