TEXAS: More than 1,500 Nepalis have directly benefited from consular services provided in San Francisco, California, by the Nepali Embassy in Washington DC, USA.

A total of 1,515 Nepalis received consular services, with the Embassy reporting that 1,506 were provided with passport and visa-related services, while five received documents for legal representation.

Initially scheduled to run for five days from January 22, the camp was extended by three days due to the influx of service seekers.

Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) California President Hari Ojha noted that Nepalis from California and neighbouring states attended the camp to avail themselves of the services.

The NRNA and other organisations had long advocated for consular services in California, given the sizeable Nepali population there.

Charge d'Affaires and Deputy Chief of Mission, Sharad Raj Aran, stated that the Government of Nepal had adopted a policy to provide services to its citizens at their doorstep, and the consular service camp was held in line with this policy.

He acknowledged the challenges of providing services to Nepalis in the US due to the vast geography and revealed efforts to establish extended offices of the Nepali Embassy in San Francisco and Texas.
