KATHMANDU: Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel has called for the modernisation, enhancement and reliability of information technology systems associated with government service delivery.
During a discussion held on Tuesday about the status of various information technology (IT) systems in use at the Ministry of Finance (MoF) and its subordinate bodies, Paudel emphasised that the utilisation of IT is essential for making service delivery faster and more efficient.
He directed the relevant authorities to increase the use of cutting-edge technology to ensure service delivery is reliable and uninterrupted, that no work is affected due to the information system, and to develop the necessary human resources and technical capacity for IT operations.
Officials from participating agencies reported that the IT systems in their respective organisations are periodically audited and are robust from a security perspective. They presented investment plans to increase the backup capacity of the systems and noted the growing demand for skilled technical human resources. However, retaining such personnel within the organisation is challenging due to inadequate benefits.
Finance Minister Paudel indicated that the government would make appropriate policy decisions to address these issues.
The meeting was attended by officials from the MoF, Nepal Rastra Bank, Office of the Comptroller General, Inland Revenue Department, Department of Customs, Citizens Investment Trust, Securities Board of Nepal, Nepal Stock Exchange, Rastriya Banijya Bank, Nepal Bank, and other agencies.
