Agreement reached on Pathibhara cable car dispute

KATHMANDU: An agreement has been reached concerning the dispute over construction of cable car in Mukumlung Pathibhara, located in Taplejung district.

A six-point agreement was reached late on Tuesday night between the talks team formed by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) and the negotiation facilitation committee of representatives from related organisations. As per the agreement, construction work on Pathibhara cable car station will be suspended for now. Those injured during the protest will receive free health treatment. An investigation into the January 25 incident will be conducted, with legal action to follow. The process for immediate release of those detained during the protest will be initiated, and agitation obstructing transportation demanding the protection of Mukumlung will be suspended.

The MoHA announced that talks to be held at 11:00 am on February 9 will further discuss the issues of the cable car project.

MoHA Joint Secretary Prem Prasad Bhattarai, coordinator of the government talks team, and Saraswati Singak (Saru), on behalf of the agitator side, signed the agreement.
