KATHMANDU: The Embassy of Nepal in Muscat, Oman, has officially begun issuing Labour Permits for Nepali workers legally employed in Oman but lacking permits from Nepal.
This initiative marks the first live enrolment for the legalisation of labour permits abroad, commencing on January 31, 2025, in Salalah, Oman. Issuing permits directly from the Embassy is expected to significantly benefit Nepali workers, aligning with the policies of the Government of Nepal, as stated by the Embassy on Tuesday.
Dornath Aryal, Nepal's ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, expressed confidence that the legalisation process would greatly assist Nepali workers. He highlighted the importance of the social security fund and remittance through legal channels and urged compliance with the host country's rules, regulations, traditions, and culture.
Surya Bahadur Khatri, Director General of the Department of Foreign Employment, congratulated everyone on the first-ever legalisation of labour permits provided by the Embassy abroad, emphasising its significance.
Nepali workers at the event expressed their happiness as the Embassy regularly offers services such as passport renewal, labour permit legalisation, and other services in Salalah, approximately 1,100 kilometres from Muscat. Representatives from the Nepali Social Club, volunteers, and Nepali associations actively participated and supported the programme.
Nepali workers employed in Oman without obtaining labour permits from Nepal can now acquire these permits at the Embassy in Muscat. The process requires creating a profile through the FEIMS system, uploading documents, submitting an online application, and appearing in person at the Embassy for biometrics.
