KATHMANDU: The Central Revenue Leakage Control Committee has stressed the importance of coordination and collaboration among agencies at all levels, from central to local, to improve the effectiveness of controlling revenue leakage.
At a meeting held at the Ministry of Finance today, Committee Coordinator, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel, highlighted the need for special attention to curb illegal exports and imports via alternative routes and areas surrounding customs points.
Finance Secretary Ram Prasad Ghimire emphasised the necessity for uniform understanding among various bodies regarding the status, classification, and use of import-export goods. He underlined the importance of basing work on factual information.
Revenue Secretary Dinesh Kumar Ghimire noted that regulating the production and import of goods at the source would facilitate the control of illegal transactions. He expressed confidence that the commitments made by officials during the meeting would be reflected in their implementation.
Officials attending the meeting recognised the need for further initiatives to achieve meaningful results despite gradual improvements in the control of illegal exports and imports. They stressed the importance of increasing surveillance in border areas, enhancing market monitoring, and prioritising the use of technology.
Representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Department of Revenue Investigation, Department of Customs, Department of Inland Revenue, Department of Money Laundering Investigation, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Nepal, and National Investigation Department were present.
