KATHMANDU: The progress of national pride projects, envisaged and initiated by the government to enhance public service delivery and boost economic growth, has been unsatisfactory due to several factors.
One significant issue is the dismal capital expenditure on these projects, despite the government's provision of all necessary resources and facilitation.
Of the total Rs 66 billion allocated for 19 out of the 27 national pride projects for the current fiscal year 2024/25, only Rs 17 billion has been spent in the first six months, according to the Ministry of Finance (MoF). This expenditure represents just 25.70% of the total budget.
Since its inception in the fiscal year 2012/2013, the number of national pride projects has increased from 17 to 27, based on national needs and project relevance.
Among the 27 projects, some have been completed, others have achieved significant milestones, and 19 are currently in the implementation phase.
Last fiscal year, over Rs 60 billion was allocated for these 19 projects. The Ministry reported financial progress at 89.82% and physical progress at 57.50%.
