HoR passes bills related to banking offence and legislation

KATHMANDU: A session of the House of Representatives (HoR) has unanimously passed two bills pertaining to banking offences and punishment, and legislation.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Bishnu Prasad Paudel on Sunday introduced the proposals for the passage of the Banking Offence and Punishment Bill-2081, and the Legislation Bill-2081.

Similarly, the Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, Ajay Kumar Chaurasiya, tabled the proposal for the passage of the Legislation Bill-2081.

Prior to this, the respective ministers addressed the questions and concerns raised by parliamentarians during the discussions on these bills.

Finance Minister Paudel explained that the bill was drafted to establish a legal framework for investigating, prosecuting, and taking action against criminal offences, including cheque bounces, within the banking and financial sector.

Minister Chaurasiya, in the discussion on the Legislation Bill-2081, stated that the bill was designed to further empower citizens.

During Minister Chaurasiya's response, Speaker Devraj Ghimire presented the government's approved amendments to the endorsed bills and subsequently announced that these amendments were approved for incorporation into the bills.

The next HoR session is scheduled for 1:00 pm today.
