KATHMANDU: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Dipak Khadka, held a meeting with his Indian counterpart, Minister of Power, Manohar Lal Khattar, in Delhi, India, on Wednesday.
Minister Khadka is in New Delhi to attend 'India Energy Week-2025'. During the meeting, they discussed various aspects of energy development between Nepal and India.
Minister Khadka expressed gratitude to the Indian government for its support in exporting electricity from Nepal to Bangladesh via the Indian transmission line. He also urged the Indian Power Ministry to approve 24-hour power availability, highlighting that the Indian Power Exchange does not provide electricity from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm during the winter season.
Furthermore, he sought approval to export power from the Tamakoshi Hydropower Project, which Nepal is constructing independently.
Indian Minister Khattar reaffirmed India's continuous support and cooperation in the development of Nepal's energy sector. He said the energy development between the two countries will be advanced through mutual discussion and collaboration.
Minister Khattar also requested Minister Khadka to facilitate the projects being constructed by Indian companies in Nepal.
The meeting was attended by Secretary at the Energy Ministry, Suresh Acharya, senior energy expert Prabal Adhikari, Joint-Secretary Sandip Kumar Dev, and Economic Advisor to the Minister, Amit Shrestha. Indian Power Ministry's Secretary Pankaj Agrawal and Chairperson of NHPC, India's electricity organisation, RK Chaudhary, were also present on the occasion.
