KATHMANDU: The Government of Nepal has launched an online labour permit approval service from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Embassy of Nepal in Abu Dhabi is the country's second diplomatic mission abroad to provide this service, following the Embassy of Nepal in Muscat, Oman.

Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security, Sharat Singh Bhandari, inaugurated the service during an event in Dubai on Thursday, according to the Embassy of Nepal in Abu Dhabi.

Minister Bhandari highlighted that the government aims to enhance services by simplifying processes, making them more accessible and technology-friendly, for the benefit of Nepali migrant workers in their host countries. He mentioned that online labour permit approval would allow Nepalis to continue their professions and businesses without needing to travel to Nepal for document updates.

He further stated that this service will be gradually introduced to other diplomatic missions.

Minister Bhandari underscored the importance of contextual policies for the protection of Nepali migrant workers, given that a significant portion of the youth population works abroad and foreign employment is a key source of remittance.

Similarly, Tej Bahadur Oli, Ambassador of Nepal to the UAE, affirmed the Embassy's commitment to protecting the rights of Nepali migrant workers and providing effective service delivery despite limited means and resources.

Representatives of various organisations from the diaspora community, including Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), were present at the event, according to the Embassy.

An interaction programme on labour was also held on the occasion.

Minister Bhandari visited Dubai to participate in the World Government Summit 2025 from February 11 to 13.
