BAGMATI: Regular import of petroleum products through the pipeline from Motihari, India, to Amlekhgunj has officially begun. This significant development follows the completion of the intra-national petroleum pipeline expansion.

The Madhes Regional Office of Nepal Oil Corporation in Amlekhgunj announced that the import of various petroleum products, including petrol and kerosene, has commenced through this new pipeline.

Pralayankar Acharya, Chief of Nepal Oil Corporation Madhes Province Office, Amlekhgunj, confirmed the project's completion and the start of regular imports. "Petrol and kerosene have already been imported through the pipeline," Chief Acharya stated. "We have now begun formally distributing the imported petrol to depots in major cities across the country."

Under the pipeline expansion project, several key infrastructure components were constructed at the Indian Oil Corporation's depot in Amlekhgunj. These include two petrol tanks with a capacity of 4,100 kilolitres each, two transmix tanks with a capacity of 250 kilolitres each, 24 fully automatic loading way-refillers for transporting petrol, a pump house, and a laboratory.

Furthermore, the project included upgrades to the Fire Fighting System, the OWS System for water and oil separation, and the PMCC Cell.

Likhita Infrastructure was tasked with completing the entire infrastructure by 2023. However, Chief Acharya mentioned that the project was completed only a few days ago due to various reasons. The Indian Oil Corporation also constructed two transmix tanks for storing mixed fuel, either petrol or diesel, and a firewater tank with a capacity of 3,000 kilolitres within the depot.

With the completion of this project, the storage capacity at the Amlekhgunj depot now stands at 24,840 kilolitres for diesel and 16,630 kilolitres for petrol.
