KATHMANDU: Wai Wai, Nepal's most popular instant noodle brand, has relocated its first manufacturing facility.
The historic factory, which had been operating in Bhaisepati, Lalitpur for four decades, has been shifted to the Chaudhary Group Industrial Park (CGIP) in Nawalparasi.
CG Foods CEO Pradip Pudasaini said that the entire relocation process was completed with mutual understanding and written consent from the workers, management, and other stakeholders.
Established in 1984, the Wai Wai factory in Bhaisepati was one of Nepal's key instant noodle manufacturing facilities. At the time of its establishment, Bhaisepati was an open area conducive to industrial activities. "Over time, this area turned into a high-density residential zone, making it difficult to continue industrial production. We decided to relocate this historic factory," Pudasaini said.
Local residents and the social sector expressed concerns about environmental and noise pollution, as well as the impact of industrial activities. In response, the Wai Wai management decided to relocate to maintain environmental balance.
The company arranged a special incentive package to ensure that no worker faced any inconvenience during the relocation. Additionally, interested staff were offered the opportunity to transfer to other Wai Wai plants and offices outside Kathmandu Valley. According to the management, this process will further strengthen the working environment within the company. "This factory was relocated with the written consent of the entire staff after proper management," Pudasaini said.
The new factory in Nawalparasi has been upgraded to a state-of-the-art production system and is now operational. Chaudhary Group is investing more in technology to ensure competitive production both in Nepal and the international market.
The company believes that this relocation will help further expand the Wai Wai brand, increase production capacity, and improve quality. As one of Nepal's most successful FMCG brands, Wai Wai aims to strengthen its products further and compete more strongly in the global market.
