KATHMANDU: Former Executive Director of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), Nara Bahadur Thapa, has stated that working in the banking sector under the Government of Nepal can provide valuable new skills and knowledge.
Speaking at a felicitation and honouring programme organised by Udaan Shaikshik Kendra for students who have joined the banking service of Rastriya Banijya Bank, Thapa urged banking sector staff to adopt new technology as the industry becomes increasingly challenging and competitive.
He remarked, “While working, you will have the opportunity to learn not only the basic skills of the banking system but also the latest technologies and various methods of economic analysis.” Analysing the challenges of the banking sector, Thapa mentioned, “Banking is no longer limited to the traditional level; its competition and challenges are increasing day by day. Currently, there is a tendency for individuals to work 12 hours a day or quit due to immense pressure. The utilisation of technology and new skills is essential to improve this situation.”

Addressing the impact and importance of technology, former Executive Director of NRB highlighted that the era of technology has brought new opportunities and challenges for the banking sector. He stated, “If you aspire to build a successful career in the banking sector, you must focus on acquiring knowledge related to digital platforms and technology. Additionally, it is crucial to pay attention to emerging areas like green finance and macro finance.” According to Thapa, the banking sector must embrace future opportunities and challenges by utilising new skills and technology.
