PHUNGLING, TAPLEJUNG: Phungling Bazaar and Pathibhara areas of Taplejung district have come under a prohibitory order, effective from this morning, following a controversy over the construction of cable car in Pathibhara.

Taplejung's Chief District Officer, Netra Prasad Sharma, issued a notification on Saturday night, enforcing prohibitory orders in the district headquarters of Phungling Bazaar and Pathibhara areas. The decision was taken in response to an unfavourable situation after a clash between locals protesting against the cable car construction and police in Phungling Bazar on Saturday evening.

Due to sensitive and adverse circumstances, the prohibitory order has been issued in accordance with Section 6 (3) (a) of the Local Administration Act, 2028 BS.

The prohibitory order is in effect from 5:00 am until further notice in Phungling Bazaar area, with boundaries stretching from Dokhu Salleri towards the east, Ghochonu and Thalangdhar towards the west, Ukali Pani towards the north, and Sherpa Toll and Veterinary Kanchenjunga Toll towards the south. Restrictions have also been imposed within 100 metres of the tourist police building on the east side, Balu Danda area on the west side, Cable Car Base Station on the north side, and the new bus park under construction on the south side under Kaphlepati area of Pathibhara.

The order prohibits gatherings of more than five people, assemblies, processions, demonstrations, and other activities within the restricted zones.

Clashes between protesters and the police have occurred at the headquarters in Phungling, with the latest incident taking place on Saturday evening. A previous clash also occurred last Thursday at the cable car construction site in Pathibhara. The injured include police personnel, protesters, and 13 others.
