KATHMANDU: Nepal's only 100% vitrified tile manufacturer, Laminar Tiles, has set a new milestone by launching its first full-body tile collection, Cento. Expanding its premium range, Laminar has introduced the highly durable, strong, and high-quality Cento collection.

Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Devendra Dahal, launched the Cento full-body collection during the inauguration ceremony of Nepal Buildcon International Expo. Laminar Tiles is the main sponsor of the expo that concluded on Sunday in Kathmandu.

The texture of full-body tiles resembles natural stone, ensuring that even with normal abrasion or scratching, there is no change in the tile's colour and texture. According to Ashutosh Khetan, Managing Director of Lumbini Ceramics, the manufacturer of Laminar tiles, Cento tiles are suitable for high-traffic areas such as airports, shopping malls, hotels, hospitals, parking lots, pavements, and other commercial and residential spaces, owing to their PEI rating of 5, indicating the highest durability and strength of any tile.

In internal testing conducted according to ISO and Indian standards, Cento tiles with a thickness of 15 mm have significantly outperformed natural granite of the same thickness. Cento tiles have a modulus of rupture (MOR) of 50.29 N/mm², compared to 14.75 N/mm² for granite. The breaking strength of Cento tiles is 6056 N, whereas granite has a breaking strength of 1588.0 N. The MOH’s hardness for Cento is 9, while granite scores 3. Additionally, Cento tiles have a surface abrasion resistance of Class 5, in contrast to Class 2 for granite.

According to the company, Cento has also demonstrated superior results compared to natural granite in chemical resistance tests. The tile has passed all tests, including stain resistance, resistance to household and swimming pool chemicals, and resistance to high and low concentrations of acids and alkalis.

For Nepali consumers, Cento is now available as an affordable, non-slip, more durable, and sustainable alternative to slippery granite or marble for home or office staircases.

The combination of attractive design and durable finish makes this collection an excellent choice for architects, interior designers, and commercial and residential projects.
