KATHMANDU: Kathmandu-Tarai Expressway, a national pride project, has recorded 38% physical progress and 39% financial progress, according to a recent update. The Nepali Army (NA), which manages the project, regards it as one of the country's most significant undertakings.
The expressway, which spans 70.97 kilometres, includes seven planned tunnels. Of these, two have been completed and two are currently under construction. This information was disclosed during a press conference held on Sunday to mark the 262nd anniversary of the NA.
Project Chief Kamal Bikram Shah reported that design and preparatory work for the remaining three tunnels had begun. He acknowledged that various challenges had impeded the expected physical progress but assured that efforts were ongoing to achieve the project's goals.
However, land acquisition issues at the project's starting point in Khokana, on the Kathmandu side, remain unresolved.
