KATHMANDU: Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Devendra Dahal stressed the importance of skilled technicians and quality education in establishing a robust economy. He stated that producing skilled technicians can help create self-employment within the country and aid in import substitution.
Speaking at the 37th anniversary of the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) today, Minister Dahal highlighted the significance of skilled education and technology transfer in developing skilled technicians.
Dahal observed that even youths with higher education are seeking employment abroad and mentioned that this trend could be mitigated if vocational and technical education were provided alongside theoretical education.
The minister pointed out that CTEVT is extending its reach to various rural areas across the country to provide technical education and vocational training. He added that efforts should also be made to ensure trained and educated manpower becomes self-reliant and professional within the country.
During the programme, Minister Dahal inspected stalls showcasing various materials and equipment built by students from different CTEVT schools through practical skills. Certificates of appreciation were awarded to the top-performing students and retired employees.
On the occasion, Minister Dahal also launched a journal published by CTEVT.
The programme was chaired by CTEVT member secretary Mahesh Bhattarai, where speakers urged the minister and the government to enact timely legislation for CTEVT.
