KATHMANDU: In a meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) today, lawmaker Dr Amaresh Kumar Singh demanded that the government disclose details of funds that have entered the country through non-governmental and international non-governmental sectors. He also called for the government to prove the utility of such funds.
Dr Singh stated that the Lower House should have access to information about the amount of funds received by the country through NGOs and INGOs. He urged the government to issue a White Paper on the matter and questioned why Nepal has been placed on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list.
Lawmaker Roshan Karki condemned the rape of a 12-year-old girl from Achham, allegedly by an adult relative while she was in India. Karki demanded justice for the survivor.
Similarly, Dhruba Bahadur Khanal drew the government's attention to the need for timely auctions of goods seized for tax evasion.
"Sugar worth Rs 5 million has been stored in Maheshpur, and it is likely to cost Rs 5,000 to destroy in the absence of timely auctions. Other customs points in the country have seized goods, including motor vehicles, that are already rusting," Khanal said.
Ranju Kumari Jha stressed the need to resolve disputes related to the implementation of Pathibhara cable car project in Taplejung. Speaking during Zero Hour, she called for development efforts to be undertaken in cooperation with locals rather than ignoring them. Jha also urged locals to be aware of the need for development and urged the government to take necessary actions to remove Nepal from the FATF grey list.
