Exports nearly double through Birgunj customs in 7 months

BIRGUNJ, PARSA: Goods worth over Rs 40.34 billion have been exported through the Birgunj customs point in the last seven months of the current fiscal year 2024/25.

Exports through this border point have more than doubled in the same period of the current fiscal year compared to the first seven months of the previous fiscal year. Goods and merchandise worth over Rs 17.07 billion were exported to foreign countries through this border point in the first seven months of the last fiscal year.

Of the 28 small and large customs points in the country, the Birgunj customs point accounts for 31.72% of total exports.

Amit Tiwari, Information Officer at the Birgunj Customs Office, stated that the overall export of refined sunflower and soybean oil has increased in the current fiscal year. "Exports have been increasing in an encouraging manner in the current fiscal year compared to the previous fiscal year," he said.

Refined soybean oil worth Rs 19.36 billion was exported via the Birgunj checkpoint in the first seven months of the current fiscal year. Similarly, refined sunflower oil worth Rs 4.63 billion and fruit juice worth Rs 3.96 billion were exported to foreign countries during the same period.

According to the Birgunj Customs Office, iron and iron products worth Rs 3.1 billion, synthetic yarn worth Rs 1.60 billion, and various types of clothing worth Rs 1.47 billion were exported via the checkpoint.

Additionally, raw materials for fodder worth Rs 1.22 billion were also exported during this period.
