
Kathmandu: NMB Bank has appointed Govinda Ghimire as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for a four-year term. The decision was made during the bank’s board of directors meeting on Friday. Ghimire, who previously served as Senior Deputy CEO, will officially assume the role in Chaitra, following the departure of the current CEO, Sunil KC, whose two-year tenure concludes at the end of Falgun.
Ghimire brings nearly three decades of experience in the banking sector. He began his career at Nepal Bangladesh Bank in 1995 and has been with NMB Bank since 2009. In Asoj 2079, he was appointed Deputy Chief Executive Officer before being promoted to Senior Deputy CEO.
An alumnus of Tribhuvan University, Ghimire holds a Master of Business Studies (MBS) degree and a Bachelor of Laws.
In addition to Ghimire’s appointment, the board has also promoted Deputy Chief Executive Officer Sudesh Upadhyay to Senior Deputy Chief Executive Officer. Upadhyay, who has been with NMB Bank for over a decade, initially joined as Senior Manager in 2015.
He began his banking career in 1998 at Standard Chartered Bank Nepal (formerly Nepal Grindlays Bank) and has international experience, having worked at Standard Chartered Bank in Qatar and Mashreq Bank, Qatar. Upadhyay holds an MBA from Tribhuvan University.
With these leadership changes, NMB Bank aims to strengthen its management team and drive further growth in Nepal’s banking sector.
