KATHMANDU: Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) President, Chandra Prasad Dhakal, has suggested prioritising creation of industrial environment to drive job creation and industrial development.

Speaking at the fifth National Labour and Employment Conference in Kathmandu on Monday, Dhakal stressed the importance of political and policy stability for attracting investors and generating employment. He highlighted the need to promote sectors capable of generating creative employment and to better utilise the skills and capital gained from foreign employment. He addressed gaps in domestic employment demand, skills development, and labour relations, advocating for an investment-friendly environment.

Dhakal mentioned that private sector generates 86% of employment, and urged against regulatory hurdles. He called for a unified vision among the government, political parties, and the private sector to enhance production, infrastructure and internal employment. He also stressed the importance of harmonious industrial relations, highlighting FNCCI's efforts in this regard.

The event, inaugurated by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, aimed to gather feedback for policy reforms. PM Oli launched the 'Internal Employment Promotion Decade 2081' and reaffirmed the government’s collaboration with the private sector to foster entrepreneurship and employment growth.

Other speakers included the Minister for Labour, Sharat Singh Bhandari; the Minister for Industry, Damodar Bhandari; and PM Oli’s Economic Advisor, Yubaraj Khatiwada. Representatives from FNCCI, other business organisations, and development agencies were also present at the programme.
