KATHMANDU: The Sherpa Half Marathon 2025, held on 8 March, brought together 40 runners from Nepal and the USA. The 21.6-kilometre race, renowned for its challenging off-road terrain, began and concluded at The Terraces Resort and Spa in Lakuri Bhanjyang. A 'Fun Run' for approximately 30 children from Shree Basuki Secondary School was also organised alongside the event.

Conducted in collaboration with the Himalayan Running Club, Nepal, and Coddiwomple Travel, the marathon featured an elevation range of 1,088 to 2,143 metres, offering runners stunning views of the Himalayas. “We are honoured to bring participants from around the globe to Nepal for this extraordinary event,” said Scott Guillemette, CEO of Coddiwomple Travel. “Our partnership with The Terraces Resort & Spa enabled us to deliver an unmatched race experience, blending high-altitude adventure with comfort and cultural immersion.”
In the men’s category, Gopal Lama claimed victory with a time of 1:34:52, followed by Dharma Maharjan at 1:40:21 and Rakesh Maharjan at 1:53:04. In the women’s category, Choki Sherpa emerged as the winner with a time of 2:01:46, while Humi Budha Magar and Shasa Shrestha finished second and third with times of 2:10:11 and 2:54:33, respectively. Internationally, Pemba Sherpa and Donna Holas finished in 2:49:10 and 4:44:41 in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively. Cash prizes of Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000, and Rs 10,000 were awarded to the top finishers, along with medals, race T-shirts, and certificates.

The prize distribution ceremony, held at The Terraces Resort and Spa, was attended by Hari Govinda Shrestha, Mayor of Mahalaxmi Municipality, as well as Wards 9 and 10 Chairpersons. Managing Director of the resort, Tenzing David Sherpa, and General Manager Suman Sunder Shrestha also distributed medals and awards.
Speaking at the event, Managing Director Sherpa, an avid runner, remarked, “We take great pride in supporting this remarkable event. The marathon not only promotes endurance sports in Nepal but also strengthens our dedication to adventure tourism and community engagement.”
