KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced that 500 entrepreneurs will receive startup loans this year to promote youth entrepreneurship.

While responding to the queries of lawmakers at the meeting of the House of Representatives today, the Prime Minister stated that the selection process for concessional interest rate loans aimed at fostering startup-based entrepreneurship is nearing completion. The initiative seeks to attract investment by encouraging creativity and innovation among young entrepreneurs.

PM Oli, highlighted the recent National Labour and Employment Conference, 2081, and said the event aimed to establish a sustainable foundation for domestic employment by boosting production and productivity. He remarked, “As the world has become a global village, citizens—regardless of how developed or wealthy their country is—are pursuing business, employment, and education opportunities abroad as per their interests.”

He asserted, “The fact that our youth are going abroad should not be viewed entirely negatively. While it is seen as a matter of pride on an individual level, its social interpretation has sent a negative message. Yesterday, livelihood options were limited; today, they have expanded. Our youth have embraced the chance to explore opportunities across the globe. However, this does not mean we have been idle in creating entrepreneurship and employment opportunities within the country.”

The Prime Minister also emphasised the government’s efforts to improve Nepal’s industrial investment environment through policy and legal reforms. These measures aim to attract foreign investment, encourage domestic investment, create employment by increasing production and productivity, and reduce the trade deficit through import management and export promotion.
