KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stated that the government is committed to controlling inflation.
The Prime Minister expressed this commitment while responding to lawmakers' questions during a meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday.
PM Oli highlighted that regular market monitoring is being conducted to ensure the smooth and accessible supply of goods and consumables essential to the daily lives of the public. He emphasised that arrangements have been made to guarantee the supply of essential food grains in remote areas.
According to the Prime Minister, strict market monitoring measures have been implemented to prevent black marketeering and hoarding of goods.
"The market monitoring committee has been activated to take action against those creating artificial shortages of goods, which has helped in curbing price hikes. A consumer court has recently been established and brought into operation to protect consumer rights and provide judicial representation,” PM Oli stated.
The Prime Minister mentioned that inflation in the current fiscal year is comparatively lower than in the previous fiscal year.
"The average consumer inflation in the first seven months of the current fiscal year was 4.16%, compared to 5.01% during the same period last fiscal year. The action plan to reduce inflation through a cautiously flexible monetary policy has been continued for the current fiscal year," he said.
PM Oli also mentioned that subsidies and concessional loans aimed at increasing agricultural production would continue. He expressed confidence that these measures would stabilise food supply, boost agricultural production, manage the import of agricultural products, and maintain price stability.
In a separate context, the Prime Minister addressed the government's sensitivity towards the treatment and rehabilitation of burn victims. He noted that the Acid and Other Hazardous Chemical Substances (Regulation) Act, 2079, includes adequate provisions for this purpose.
He added that the government would present its views during discussions in the House or the relevant committee regarding the provisions of the private bill registered in parliament concerning the treatment, rehabilitation, and rights of burn victims.
