KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has underscored the importance of constructing durable structures through the use of modern technology.

Addressing the 10th National Convention of Progressive Engineers' Association Nepal (PEAN) in Lalitpur today, Prime Minister Oli urged engineers to prioritise building strong and safe structures while taking Nepal’s geographical conditions into account. He called on engineers to propose solutions to any legal complexities, assuring that the government would work to resolve them.

The Prime Minister highlighted the need for constructive and positive contributions from opposition parties, reaffirming the government’s commitment to achieving the national aspiration of 'Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali'. He noted that development activities accelerated following the political change in 1991, and reconstruction efforts after the 2015 earthquake were carried out under the slogan 'Build Better'.

"Development is not possible without infrastructure. Infrastructure development creates markets and promotes entrepreneurship. I commend the engineers for their contributions to building strong structures," he stated. He also emphasised the importance of fostering an education system in Nepal that encourages entrepreneurship and advanced learning, reducing the need for students to pursue studies abroad.

PEAN Chairperson Engineer Suraj Lamichhane noted that the organisation, originally established as the 'Engineering Study Group' in 2047 BS, now functions as a people’s class organisation of the CPN (UML). He added that PEAN’s policy focuses on providing technical support to the party and assisting in the formulation of technology-friendly policies.

This event highlighted the critical role of engineers in Nepal’s development and the government’s focus on modernising infrastructure to drive progress.
