Nepal's eye care services attract patients from India, Bangladesh, Bhutan

KATHMANDU: Nepal continues to attract citizens from India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and other nations seeking eye care and treatment.

Foreign patients have accessed services at 28 eye hospitals and 224 eye treatment centres operated by Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh (NNJS).  

According to NNJS Executive Director Dr Sailesh Kumar Mishra, a total of 907,071 foreign nationals underwent eye tests in 2024, with 162,845 receiving surgeries during the same year.  

Overall, the NNJS provided eye test services to 3,268,034 patients and performed 258,575 surgeries in 2024. Among these, 34,425 surgeries were offered free of charge through the NNJS's hospitals and outreach programmes.  

Since its inception, the NNJS has treated 46,868,060 individuals, including both Nepalis and foreign nationals, through its extensive network. Furthermore, 5,392,224 individuals have undergone eye surgeries under its care, according to Dr Mishra.
