KATHMANDU: Tributes have been paid to Suresh Rajak, a journalist who died during violent protests staged by supporters of the former king in Tinkune, Kathmandu, on Friday.
A demonstration was held at Maitighar this morning, led by the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), calling for an investigation into Rajak’s death and strict action against those responsible.
Rajak, a cameraman for Avenues Television, was found burnt inside a building reportedly set on fire by protesters in Tinkune.
FNJ Acting President Deepak Acharya stated during the programme that the Federation is committed to securing justice for Rajak. He emphasised the importance of unity among journalists to safeguard their safety and protect their property.
The demonstration was attended by former FNJ presidents Taranath Dahal, Dharmendra Jha, and Shiva Gaunle, alongside other journalists. They demanded justice for Rajak and compensation for his grieving family.
Ram Krishna Adhikari, FNJ’s central treasurer, announced that all programmes planned to mark the FNJ's Establishment Day have been postponed. Protests are now underway. He also noted that an emergency meeting of the FNJ’s central members would be held today to discuss further steps. Adhikari confirmed that FNJ representatives plan to meet the Minister of Communication and Information Technology to submit a memorandum.
