Ncell NSL Season 3 begins with thrilling opening match

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s first franchise-based professional football league, the Ncell Nepal Super League (NSL) Season 3, commenced on Saturday with an opening ceremony at Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu.

The opening match between Lalitpur City FC and Kathmandu Rayzrs FC ended in a 2–2 draw. Vincent Koziello of Kathmandu Rayzrs FC was declared the 'Ncell Valuable Player of the Match.'

Prior to the kick-off, singer Durgesh Thapa performed at the stadium with a lively musical act.

Ncell will award the 'Ncell Valuable Player of the Match' in each game throughout the season with a cash prize of Rs 30,000 and a recharge voucher worth Rs 5,000.

Today’s match will see Butwal Lumbini FC take on Jhapa FC at 6:00 pm.

As the title sponsor, Ncell is supporting the season, which features seven teams: Butwal Lumbini FC, Dhangadhi FC, FC Chitwan, Jhapa FC, Kathmandu Rayzrs FC, Lalitpur City FC, and Pokhara Thunders FC, all competing for the championship trophy.

Last Thursday, Ncell partnered with Lalitpur City FC as the ‘Powered By’ sponsor to promote sports and youth development in Nepal. Ncell NSL aims to provide a platform for Nepali football players to showcase their skills and contribute to the growth of the sport in the country.

Umair Mohsin, Chief Commercial Officer of Ncell, stated, "Our partnerships reflect Ncell’s passion for sports. Through this season, we aim to support Nepali players in creating opportunities that make the nation proud." He also announced plans for a special offer for customers in the coming days.

The season includes 34 matches, culminating in the final on April 16. Ncell, through its involvement, seeks to promote football and engage fans, whose enthusiasm drives the success of tournaments.

Ncell, under the Ncell Foundation, has contributed to sports development through its CSR activities, including support for cricket, football, volleyball, and golf, as well as training programmes for para-athletes. The company expresses pride in being part of Nepal’s football journey.
