KATHMANDU: Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) has expressed strong objections to acts of vandalism, arson attacks, and the looting of private and public property, including media establishments, during demonstrations held last Friday.
The NCC condemned the violent incidents reported from areas including Baneshwor, Tinkune and Koteshwor in Kathmandu.
In a statement, the NCC stated, "During the demonstrations last Friday, two young individuals, including a journalist, tragically lost their lives, and significant damage was caused to public and private properties, as well as media houses." The organisation demanded compensation for all those impacted by the events.
The NCC also criticised the violation of fundamental rights of citizens and entrepreneurs to carry out their daily activities during the protests.
Expressing grief over the loss of lives, the NCC extended condolences to the victims and sympathies to their bereaved families.
The NCC urged all stakeholders to exercise restraint, warning that such actions—at a time when the country's economy is showing signs of recovery—will further destabilise the economic situation.
